大冷门!夺冠热门出局,5换1交易黯然失色
NBA regular season is nearing its end with only six or seven rounds left, yet the battle for playoff berths remains intense. Currently, only four teams have secured their spots, with three in the West - the Nuggets, Thunder, and Timberwolves, and only the Celtics in the East. In the Western Conference, the competition for the remaining five playoff spots is fierce, with just a 2.5-game difference between the 5th placed Mavericks and the 9th placed Lakers. The Western Conference is known for its tough competition, with numerous strong teams and emerging dark horses. It's hard to imagine what it would be like if the Suns, Lakers, and Warriors all ended up in the play-in tournament. Currently, the Suns are 8th in the West, Lakers are 9th, and the Warriors are 10th.
In comparison, the Eastern Conference has less cutthroat competition, with a greater divide between teams. The top 10 in the East are almost set, with the 10th placed Hawks leading the 11th placed Nets by 6.5 games, and the 8th placed 76ers leading the 9th placed Bulls by 5 games. Teams like the Heat and the 76ers in the 7th and 8th spots have significantly higher firepower than the 9th and 10th placed Bulls and Hawks. It's highly probable that the current top 8 teams in the East will secure playoff berths. Overall, there are fewer super teams in the East, with only the Celtics and the Bucks standing out. While the Celtics boast a star-studded lineup with Tatum, Brown, Smart, and Horford, their postseason prowess has been questioned.
In contrast, the Bucks, led by Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, have a higher pedigree. Giannis, a former MVP and NBA champion, is one of the top-tier superstars known for his athleticism and inside presence. On the other hand, Lillard, though lacking in major titles, possesses strong individual skills and a clutch gene, making him one of the most reliable players in crunch time. Recognized as one of the NBA's 75 greatest players of all time, Lillard's deep three-point shooting and clutch performances make him a valuable asset. This was a key reason why the Bucks pursued him in the offseason, sacrificing defensive depth by trading away Grayson Allen and Jrue Holiday.
Unfortunately, Lillard's shooting efficiency has dipped significantly this season, with a field goal percentage of 42.6% and a three-point percentage of 35.8%. Compared to last season, Lillard's scoring has dropped by nearly 8 points per game, and the Bucks no longer boast the defensive prowess they once did. While their current record of 47 wins and 28 losses places them 2nd in the East with a winning percentage of over 60%, they haven't displayed the dominance they envisioned at the start of the season. In recent games, despite Giannis's stellar performances averaging 33 points, 17 rebounds, and 7.4 assists on a 63.9% shooting percentage, the Bucks have struggled, with a 2-3 record in their last five games.
In a surprising turn of events, the Bucks were recently defeated by the league's worst team, the Wizards, despite Giannis's triple-double performance of 35 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists. Over the past month, they've suffered losses to the Lakers twice, a 35-point defeat to the Warriors, and another 35-point loss to the Kings. The trade that brought Lillard to the Bucks, sacrificing depth, seems to have backfired. Meanwhile, players like Holiday and Allen, traded away by the Bucks, have found success with their new teams. Holiday has been instrumental in the Celtics' success, while Allen boasts the league's highest three-point shooting percentage of 47.0% with the Suns, surpassing Lillard's accuracy.
Heading into the playoffs, unless Lillard regains his form from his time with the Trail Blazers, the Bucks may struggle to make a breakthrough. With Giannis becoming a target for opponents, the Bucks' reliance on him becomes apparent. The Eastern Conference still harbors many dark horse teams capable of causing upsets, and the Bucks will need more than just Giannis's brilliance to contend.
